Valentina For Dec 19

Our final Project called OUR NYC The Way We See it was overall the most exciting I’ve done so far. Since the first day we got in the group we came with this idea right away. A photo book showing the perspective of three designers around NYC. The process consisted on collect the images we were going to use, after that we gave each other different functions. I was in charged of the arrangement, Mario worked on the typefaces and the texts, and Brianna worked on the proofreading and cover. The text we used was just personal thoughts and comments of the photographs we took.

After everything was completed we research different printing places. We sent the files to Magcloud which worked really good. I received the book on Wednesday and as soon as I opened I felt the amazing quality it came. We used a saddle-stich binding, the size of the phonebook is 8.5×5.5 landscape which makes the book more personal and easy to carry. I’m really satisfied with the printing quality the color and the images came nice and exactly the way we designed it.

Working on this project made me realize how important is to communicate with your team and make sure everyone agrees with the final decisions. The only challenge was the timeline and how to work with different schedules since we work and have other projects to work on. But I can’t complain we were really determined to finish this on time so we can  send it online since I never print anything on Magcloud and I wanted to see how the quality and process was. I’m definitely printing again with Magcloud because it’s reliable, they help you setting up your files, and it’s really cheap compared to local stores.

We decided to split the work on this project in order to have everything done by next week and start printing. I’m working on the arrangement and position of the photographs through the book. Mario is working on the typography and styles so the text looks the same. Brianna is designing the intro of the booklet as well as the proof reading to correct mistakes and double check the final document to print. Overall we’ve been working together and come with different ideas and changes so we can create a clean and unique publication.

Valentina for Nov 14

My classmates projects were really informative. The topics were Interesting and I learned a lot from stuff that I didn’t even know before. I woulda like see more opinions and critique about the Presidential elections since these were the most chaotic elections that the country had.
Our brochure consisted on an arrange of images and statements where Donald Trump referred to women as useless sexual machines through the years. We all know Trump has no filter and the scandals, debates and interviews during this tense period left a lot to say about his ethics and personality. We focused on women’s empowerment and the use of colors and pop art style give the feminine touch we wanted to reflect.

If I have the chance to start this project again I would do a brouchure about powerful, strong woman through the years and how the became succesful. If we look at the history of this country there’s a bunch of women that has work for women’s rights, movements and make this country better so why not create a publication were it tells who they are, contributions to the history and more.

Valentina for October 24

This project was my favorite so far this semester. I like the fact that it was free topic so we had to use a lot of our creativity and also what we like. At first I had a completely different concept and I swap it last minute. Overall I feel really satisfied with my zine. I had a lot of fun too looking for images and what to talk about.

While I was reading the zines of my classmates I felt identified with some of them. For instace the 90’s zine took me back to my childhood and made me laugh at all. “The major key”zine caught my attention as well because there was a lot of positive qoutes and advices for a succesful life. I woulda love to see these zines in color because there was a lot of amazing pictures and good typography.

Something different I would do is work with illustrations. Im not really good drawing but I would take the risk next time. I wish we have more projects like this because collecting my classmates work give me some inspiration and visual references that could work in another projects.
